Product details
Domaine Leflaive, a historic estate rooted in Puligny-Montrachet since 1717, has long been a benchmark for biodynamic viticulture and precision winemaking in Burgundy. The current domaine was shaped between 1910 and 1930 by Joseph Leflaive through strategic acquisitions, and it continues to lead with a commitment to organic and biodynamic practices (certified since 1992 and 1998, respectively). The Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is sourced from a single parcel planted in 1958 and 1959, spanning 1.15 hectares on southeast-facing slopes of calcareous clay soil at 230 meters altitude. The 2022 vintage, marked by heatwaves and a warm, dry summer followed by timely rainfall, resulted in beautifully matured fruit. Harvested beginning August 25, the grapes underwent long, gentle pneumatic pressing and a slow fermentation in French oak (25% new), followed by 12 months of cask aging and an additional 6 months in tank before bottling.
The 2022 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet expresses both power and elegance, with a generous yet refined structure shaped by its Grand Cru terroir and expert élevage. While specific tasting descriptors are not provided in the tech sheet, expect a complex bouquet typical of top-tier Chardonnay from this site—layered with citrus oils, white flowers, and stone fruits, underpinned by mineral tension and delicate oak spice. The wine’s aging in 25% new French oak adds a subtle creamy texture without overpowering the purity of fruit. Its depth and balance make it an ideal match for luxurious dishes such as butter-poached lobster, seared scallops, poultry in cream sauce, or aged cheeses like Comté or Brillat-Savarin. This is a Grand Cru Chardonnay built for both immediate pleasure and graceful aging over the next two decades.
