Vilmart & Cie Ratafia 2013 is a rare and refined expression of Chardonnay’s subtlety, crafted with the same meticulous care that defines the historic Vilmart estate in Rilly-la-Montagne, Champagne. This 100% Chardonnay Ratafia is made exclusively from Premier Cru grapes harvested manually in September 2020. The Vilmart estate, certified for both Sustainable Viticulture (Viticulture Durable) and High Environmental Value (HVE), remains deeply committed to preserving its terroir. To craft this Ratafia, freshly pressed grape must undergoes vinification in 400L and 600L oak barrels, where fermentation is halted by the addition of Champagne “fine”—a traditional distillate—before aging gracefully for seven years. The result is a fortified wine bottled in elegant 50cl format, representing a blend of tradition, terroir, and patience.
The 2013 Ratafia opens with a velvety, round nose accented by fresh, mentholated notes and the bright aroma of candied apricot. On the palate, it reveals rich layers of acacia honey and violet candy, carried by a fresh, greedy, and elegant structure. The finish is intensely aromatic and lingers with notes of lemon zest, candied fruit, citrus, and warm toast. This Ratafia is a graceful and persistent indulgence—ideal as a luxurious pairing with lemon or citrus tarts.
