Schrader Boars’ View Pinot Noir 2017 is a powerful and elegant expression of the Sonoma Coast, born from a vineyard that has now fully matured into its identity. The project, led by Fred Schrader and acclaimed winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, began in 2007 with the goal of crafting world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from a 10-acre estate nestled just inland from the Pacific Ocean. With heritage clones planted in Goldridge loam soils, and meticulous low-intervention techniques—including hand harvesting, native fermentation, and aging in high-quality French oak barrels—the 2017 vintage represents a standout moment in the winery’s evolution. Benefiting from a long, cool growing season, the fruit achieved optimal ripeness and complexity without over-extraction.
In the glass, the 2017 Boars’ View Pinot Noir reveals a deep plum hue and inky density, signaling the concentration within. On the palate, it bursts with lush layers of pomegranate and cranberry compote, woven with darker undertones of clove, licorice, and confectionery cocoa. Notes of evergreen and mint lift the wine’s profile, adding an ethereal, herbal finish that’s both refreshing and persistent. The balanced acidity and structure give it the versatility to pair beautifully with dishes like roast duck, mushroom risotto, grilled quail, or herb-crusted pork loin. This vintage stands as a refined balance of power and finesse—a compelling Pinot Noir that captures the essence of its coastal terroir and continues to evolve gracefully in the bottle.
