Schrader Boars' View The Coast Pinot Noir 2019 is a striking expression of coastal viticulture and artisanal winemaking. Founded by Fred and Carol Schrader with David and Judy Steiner in 2007, Boars’ View is situated two ridgelines inland from the Pacific Ocean in the rugged hills of the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA on the Sonoma Coast. This site enjoys a perfect balance of marine-influenced mornings and sun-drenched afternoons, creating ideal growing conditions for premium Pinot Noir. Legendary vineyard manager Ulises Valdez Sr., in collaboration with acclaimed winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, planted heritage California clones—Calera, Mt. Eden, and Swan—on Goldridge loam and silty clay soils after detailed site analysis. The result is a meticulously farmed vineyard, tended today by Valdez & Sons, that yields fruit of exceptional depth and purity.
The 2019 vintage of The Coast Pinot Noir captures the essence of this extraordinary site and season. A cooler, late-starting spring was followed by a warm, fog-kissed summer, allowing for slow, even ripening and preservation of vibrant acidity. In the glass, the wine glows a brilliant purple and bursts with vivacious, exotic aromatics—clove, black licorice, cranberry skin, and mint oil. The palate is silky yet layered, unfolding with spice-dusted bramble fruit, lavender, kirsch, star anise, and a hint of plum reduction. It finishes with lingering exotic spice and a bright, mouth-watering acidity that underscores its coastal provenance. Best enjoyed after decanting or with a few years of aging, this Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with duck confit, mushroom risotto, or grilled salmon, and showcases the very best that Sonoma’s coastal hills can offer.
