Product details
Brewed by Katsuyama Shuzo in Miyagi Prefecture—Sendai’s historic Date clan brewery founded in 1688—Ken (献, meaning “a gift” or “offering”) is a flagship junmai ginjo that pours the distillery’s centuries-old heritage into every bottle. Crafted from Yamada-Nishiki rice polished to 50%, it’s made via slow, low-temperature fermentation and gentle fune-shibori (bag pressing), producing a clean, refined sake meant to elevate fine cuisine. Ken has garnered top honors globally, including the prestigious Champion Sake title at the IWC 2019, Platinum at Kura Master, plus multiple victories in the Japan Sake Competition.
Ken opens with a gentle, clean nose rich with fruity aromas—think melons, red apple, pineapple, pear, and soft floral hints—blended seamlessly with rice umami. On the palate, it delivers a silky, medium-bodied mouthfeel, crisp dryness, subtle acidity, and a soft, supple fullness that lingers in a clean, well-rounded finish. It pairs exquisitely with lightly flavored fare—sashimi, sushi, grilled fish, and fresh seafood—as well as mild Western-style dishes like soft cheeses, light appetizers, and steamed chicken, where its balance and refinement can shine.
