Product details
Glenglassaugh’s story is one of reclamation and elemental provenance. Tucked along the windswept coast of northeastern Scotland, the house endured long years of silence before waking from dormancy to discover rare, storied casks hidden in cliff-side warehouses. Among these, cask #5640—laid down in 1973 and matured for 49 years—stands as a tribute to unhurried patience and the interplay of oak, saline sea air, and time. Its colour is described as a medallion gold, a warm radiance that captures centuries of ambient light and sea mist. The choice of a bourbon barrel for this maturation adds a framework of gentle oak and vanilla along with subtle depth, while the coastal proximity imparts a faint brine-kissed edge, giving the complex body a sense of place and character.
On the nose, this rare release unfolds into an exotic fruit elixir: rich guava, white peach, and creamy coconut linger on a breeze scented with gorse and salt-laden air. The mouthfeel is silken, inviting waves of sun-ripened papaya, passionfruit, and more guava, layered with tropical ripeness and a luxuriously lush texture. Finally, the finish lingers long — the fruit’s warmth gradually tapers, leaving echoes of mellow cream, coconut, and a gentle briny caress that speaks both of the sea-kissed warehouse and the decades of quiet aging.
