Compass Box Flaming Heart 25th Anniversary Edition is a bold, poetic tribute to 25 years of maverick whisky making, marking the eighth release in a beloved series that began in 2006. This special edition reimagines the core concept of Flaming Heart—oak, smoke, and fire—through a refined, minimalist lens, using only a few select components to create immense complexity. Forgoing unpeated elements for the first time, Compass Box has assembled an all-peated blend composed of single malts from Talisker (48.1%), Benrinnes (35.5%), “Williamson” (13.4%), and Laphroaig (3%), with maturation in custom French oak, recharred American oak hogsheads, and a finishing touch of Marsala cask-aged depth. Bottled at 48.9% ABV (97.8 proof), unchillfiltered and naturally colored, only 9,384 bottles were produced, making this a collectible homage to Compass Box’s adventurous spirit and relentless pursuit of flavor.
The whisky opens with a rich plume of oily smoke, layered with zingy spice, cookie dough sweetness, and umami miso depth. Subtle hints of raspberry and apricot peek through, wrapped in maritime impressions of tarry rope. On the palate, a dense, layered spice attack—clove, nutmeg, pink and black pepper—is met with medicinal peat and vivid fruit tones reminiscent of blueberry jam and ripe apple. A crescendo of smoky complexity lingers through the finish, with woody ash, menthol brightness, and citrus oils leaving a lasting impression. Perfectly paired with smoked oysters, grilled lamb, or aged gouda, this edition of Flaming Heart is a smoky, smoldering symphony—pared back in form, but epic in performance.
