Fable Chapter 9: Storm Auchroisk 12-Year-Old Scotch Whisky is a limited-edition single malt that exemplifies the artistry of independent bottler Fable Whisky. Founded by industry veterans Andrew Torrance and Calum Lawrie, Fable Whisky merges storytelling with exceptional Scotch, drawing inspiration from Scottish folklore. This release, distilled at the Auchroisk distillery in Speyside in 2009, matured for 12 years in a single hogshead cask (No. 803672), and was bottled in 2021 at a cask strength of 56.5% ABV. Limited to just 287 bottles, it is presented without chill filtration or added coloring, preserving its natural character. The label features artwork by Hugo Cuellar, depicting a scene from the tale "The Ghost Piper of Clanyard Bay," aligning with Fable's commitment to storytelling through whisky.
On the nose, this whisky offers light sweetness with citrus notes of lime zest and lemon lollipops, complemented by marmalade, plum pulp, prunes, and candied fruit. The palate is notably nutty, featuring marzipan, peppery spice, oily green walnut, and dark chocolate, all well-integrated. The finish is peppery and dry, with clear cereal notes and malt biscuit. This complex profile makes it an excellent companion to rich, savory dishes such as roasted duck, aged cheeses, or dark chocolate desserts. Serving it neat or with a few drops of water allows the intricate flavors to unfold, offering a memorable tasting experience.
