The Balvenie Fifty Collection celebrates five decades of stories, craftsmanship, and foresight through three distinctive expressions released over three years. The Second Edition builds upon the collection’s first release by bringing together a European Oak Refill Butt filled in 1973 with an American Oak Hogshead also filled in 1973, selected and married under the direction of Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie. This carefully developed combination reflects the collection’s focus on time, continuity, and the character shaped through decades of maturation. The presentation is equally considered, created in collaboration with Cumbria-based craft workshop Croglin and featuring more than 100 individual elements. A striking helix structure formed from four layers of wood, crafted to a precision tolerance of less than 1/10th of a millimeter and finished with 14-carat gold-plated brass, completes the presentation.
The aromatic profile opens with floral notes layered with sticky toffee, violet, and rose, resting over warming oak and subtle spice developed through decades of maturation. On the palate, molten dates and sweet soft currants are complemented by a delicate touch of citrus zest, followed by creamy honey and a buttery finish. The combination of mature oak, soft fruit, floral character, and gentle sweetness creates a deeply layered profile that reflects the remarkable age and careful cask selection behind The Balvenie Fifty Second Edition.
