The Balvenie Fifty Collection Edition Three is the final expression in a three-part series created to celebrate five decades of craftsmanship, people, and foresight at The Balvenie. Following the First Edition’s 1973 European Oak refill butt and the Second Edition’s addition of a 1973 American Oak hogshead, Edition Three brings a third cask into the marriage: an American Oak barrel filled in 1974. The resulting expression brings together casks spanning two vintages and reflects the careful, long-term approach of Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie. The presentation is equally distinctive, created in collaboration with Cumbria-based craft workshop Croglin. Each presentation incorporates more than 100 individual elements, including a helix structure formed from four layers of wood with precision tolerances of less than one-tenth of a millimeter and finished with 14-carat gold-plated brass, extending the collection’s emphasis on detailed craftsmanship beyond the bottle itself.
The tasting profile combines buttery pastry and confectionery notes with the richness of golden Manuka honey and ripe, soft fruit. Subtle oak spice adds another layer of character, creating a measured progression between pastry-like richness, honeyed sweetness, mature fruit, and gently spiced oak. As the final chapter of The Balvenie Fifty Collection, Edition Three brings together these carefully developed characteristics in an expression designed around depth, maturity, and the character of long-aged oak.
