Product details
This 16-year Orkney creation emerges from the independent bottling house Rites of Passage, which has quickly gained respect for selecting rare, exemplary casks with character and integrity. Originally distilled in 2006, this edition was given a long tenure in first-fill Oloroso sherry hogsheads after an initial period in refill wood, producing just 287 bottles in total. The careful maturation emphasizes the regional signature: a maritime essence blended with sweetness and depth, while the decision to skip chill-filtering or added coloring ensures the natural complexity is maintained. Across its profile you’ll find a balance of wood influence, fruit character, and subtle richness—the kind of release meant for those who appreciate nuance over force.
On the nose it greets you with chocolate fudge and dried fruits—dates, cranberries, and hints of fig—woven with the gentle warmth of chai spice and earth beneath. On the palate there’s a deep sweetness: chocolatey tones, dried berries, candied orange peel, and subtle earthy notes, all rounded by a refined tannic edge. The finish lingers in a rich, fudgy fade—tart berries, gentle spice, and a lingering sweetness that softens into mellow warmth and a hint of woody character.
