Unlike many of its Islay counterparts, Bunnahabhain is known primarily for its non-peated style, allowing the character of the underlying malt and carefully selected oak to take center stage. Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength series highlights individual distillery character through carefully selected casks, with this mature expression offering exceptional depth and complexity.
The aroma opens with sweet honeycomb and vanilla, followed by treacle, stewed plum, cinnamon, clove, and toffee apple. The palate combines baked apple and raspberry with Brazil nut, chocolate, ripe banana, pear, soft oak, and delicate floral notes. A long, complex finish brings lingering pear and lime alongside subtle aniseed and a gentle menthol-like freshness.
