Product details
Nestled in the “Granary of Aberdeenshire” and founded in 1797, Glen Garioch (pronounced “Geery” in the local Doric dialect) is one of Scotland’s oldest continuously operating Highland distilleries. Now under the stewardship of Suntory via Morrison Bowmore, the distillery prides itself on crafting its whisky in small, precious batches using traditional methods—steeped in history, from its ancient barley-rich soils to the gas-fired stills and (recently revived) onsite malting floors. The 12 Year Old expression is a non–chill-filtered showcase of this heritage, matured in carefully selected ex‑bourbon and sherry casks, delivering a creamy, full‑bodied Highland malt with a natural texture and depth.
On the nose, expect the warm glow of sharp honey, floral heathery notes, poached pear, and malted barley; the palate then unfolds layers of crème brûlée, ripe banana, gentle oak, and pear fruitiness, finishing long, smooth, and fragrant. One of the brand’s suggested pairings, echoed by independent retailers, is Parmigiano‑Reggiano, which beautifully balances the whisky’s dryness and accentuates its sweet fruit and clean barley tones. This pairing—or similarly rich cheeses, honey‑glazed fruit tarts, or lightly spiced desserts—offers an elegant harmony that elevates both dram and dish.
