Product details
Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is a historic family estate on Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune that has been producing this exclusive Clos des Ducs since 1804 as a monopole—its own single-walled parcel in Volnay. Known for meticulous vine care and low yields from old vines, the estate maintains balanced soil life and strong harmony in the vineyard. The 2004 vintage from Clos des Ducs is often hailed by the producer as “firm and elegant … in a league of its own.”
Upon presentation, this 2004 reveals a deep ruby hue. The aromas bring forward rich red berries—think cherry and quince—with floral highlights of violet and spice-toned earthiness, alongside subtle notions of blood orange and cola-tinged soil character. On the palate, it begins tightly and with firm structure, gradually unfolding into layers of ripe red cherry, honeyed ham-like sweetness, chalky minerality and a touch of licorice on the finish. The texture is medium-plus in weight, with notable grip and a lingering mineral-stamped finale lasting nearly thirty seconds.
