Product details

Domaine Fontaine‑Gagnard, founded in 1985 by Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard in Chassagne‑Montrachet, is today led by Céline Fontaine (with Fred Robert), who upholds the family’s tradition while refining their distinct expression of terroir. The 2023 Chassagne‑Montrachet Blanc is a village‑level cuvée, drawn from six parcels across the appellation—planted between the 1960s and 1980s on clay‑limestone soils (notably En Journoblot, La Bergerie, Voillenots, Les Essarts, PotBois). Vinified using indigenous yeasts with alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in barrel (10–15 days), then aged for 11 months in French oak (a portion new), this wine showcases the domaine’s philosophy: classic Burgundian tradition with a clear sense of place and finesse.

The 2023 vintage reveals a lifted nose of yellow plum, white peach, and crushed stone minerality, subtly spiced by gentle oak influence. On the palate the wine is tensile and well‑balanced, with bright acidity underpinning a richer, slightly honeyed finish—clear evidence of purity and precision, yet welcoming from its youth. At approximately 13% ABV, it is medium‑bodied and accessible now (vinous rating: 90 points, drinking window 2025–2035) though it holds structure for cellaring. For food pairing, this elegant Chardonnay suits delicately flavored white meats such as roasted chicken or turkey, shellfish like langoustine with hollandaise, creamy veal schnitzel, and cheese courses featuring Gruyère or Maroilles soufflé. A versatile white, it complements both refined seafood and rich yet balanced comfort dishes.
