Product details
Claxton’s Strathclyde 28-Year-Old Single Grain Scotch Whisky is a distinguished independent bottling from Claxton’s, an artisanal Scotch whisky house built upon generations of cask expertise. Part of their coveted Exploration Series, this release hails from a single cask distilled at the historic Strathclyde distillery in the Lowlands in November 1994 and carefully aged until bottling in June 2023. Crafted in Oloroso hogshead cask, this limited-run (only 240 bottles) lightly non–chill filtered and natural-colored expression embodies Claxton’s exacting philosophy—blending spirit and wood with patience, precision, and provenance.
On the nose, it exudes a delicate and charming bouquet: nectarine, yellow plum, lemon zest, white chocolate, and candied orange peel, promising a gentle richness without overpowering sweetness. In the mouth, expect a luscious interplay—flavors of nectarine flesh, ripe plum, honey, vanilla, and airy meringue gracefully transition into a slow-building burn of pepper, clove, and roasted spice, showcasing a complex, balanced sugar-spice harmony.
This exceptionally refined whisky is best savored neat or with a splash of spring water to coax out its nuanced layers. It pairs beautifully with caramelized apple tartlets or buttery shortbread—desserts that echo its honeyed richness and deepen its subtle spice.
