Aramasa Private Lab Murasakiyata Kumamoto Relief 2020 is one of Aramasa’s most distinctive and exceptionally scarce releases, created through an unusual “re仕込み” approach that builds each generation upon the one before it. Rather than using a conventional matured base in place of part of the water, Murasakiyata incorporates the previous season’s already richly developed Kijoshu-style expression, including Hinotori, as a key component of the next batch. This continuous lineage traces back to a 2009 release made with Aramasa No. 6 Junmai from 2008, with a portion subsequently carried forward and renewed year after year. Approximately half of each small batch is reserved for the following season, leaving only a limited quantity available from each vintage. The 2020 edition also carries a charitable purpose, reflecting Aramasa’s support for reconstruction efforts following the Kumamoto earthquake and combining an extraordinary production concept with meaningful historical significance.
The tasting profile is notably rich and rounded, opening with concentrated brown sugar, honey, and mature mandarin notes. Pronounced sweetness gives the palate generous weight, while bright acidity provides definition and balance as the flavors gradually unfold. Mature fruit character and honeyed richness become increasingly layered toward the finish, developing into lingering dried-fruit nuances and a deep, honey-like sweetness that emphasizes the remarkable concentration and complexity of this rare Aramasa Private Lab release.
