Product details
Sakai Gokyo Five Red Junmai reflects the heritage and craftsmanship of Sakai Shuzo, established in 1871 in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. Located along the Nishiki River, the producer takes its name from Kintaikyo Bridge, a celebrated local landmark distinguished by its five wooden arches. This expression is crafted using the traditional kimoto method in wooden vats, highlighting the producer’s dedication to time-honored practices and distinctive flavor development. Designed around a bold, exceptionally dry profile, Gokyo Five Red combines a light character with clear savory depth, making it a versatile choice for food-focused dining.
Gokyo Five Red presents moderate grapefruit and citrus aromas, followed by a clean, savory palate with pronounced umami, subtle creamy sweetness, and a remarkably dry, crisp finish. Its light character and refreshing finish complement a variety of dishes, including steak, pork or veal cutlets, cream stew, fried chicken, hamburg steak, fish simmered in sweetened soy sauce, sukiyaki, Japanese meat and potato stew, sweet-and-sour pork, and mapo tofu.
