Iowa Legendary Rye Patriot Edition Purple Label is a one-of-a-kind expression—the only handcrafted, 100% sweet rye whiskey mashed and distilled on-site in the world today, born from a faithfully preserved 1931 Prohibition-era recipe. Located in Carroll County, Iowa, the distillery is deeply rooted in local history and craftsmanship, sourcing all ingredients from Carroll and Crawford counties. What begins as their 93-point-rated white rye undergoes an initial maturation of up to 18 months in 15-gallon American Oak casks to become their internationally award-winning Black Label. But for Purple Label, the journey doesn’t stop there. Selected barrels of Black are double-distilled again through Iowa Legendary’s proprietary pot/reflux stills to refine and concentrate the spirit’s finest elements. This re-distilled rye then undergoes a second 18-month aging in fresh 15-gallon barrels, resulting in an intensely rich, deeply colored whiskey—dark like a fine roast coffee, glowing like a freshly minted penny—and bottled at a powerful 121.2 proof.
Purple Label opens with a warming nose of soft wood, sweet citrus, and a hint of nutty richness. On the palate, it delivers thick caramel overtones, smooth layers of vanilla and honey, and a touch of spice, all enveloped in a warm, smoky body. The texture is bold and syrupy, delivering a full-bodied, lingering experience with earthy undertones and subtle root vegetable notes that evolve long after the sip. Despite its heat, the whiskey remains elegantly balanced—perfect for sipping neat, with a splash of water, or alongside smoked meats, barbecue, aged cheeses, and even dark chocolate desserts. This is not just a top-shelf rye—it’s a masterful, limited-edition spirit that redefines what handcrafted whiskey can be.
