Domaine Henri Bourgeois Sancerre d’Antan Terroir de Silex 2019 exemplifies ten generations of family dedication to expressing the true character of Sancerre's terroirs. The estate, based in Chavignol, cultivates a mosaic of plots across silex (flint) soils first planted in 1936. With organic fertilization, low yields, grass cover, and minimal intervention, the fruit is vinified without fining or filtration. The wine undergoes fermentation in older oak barrels (4‑ to 6‑year) and spends extended time on fine lees with only two rackings performed per lunar cycle, resulting in a rich yet pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc on flinty terroir.
On the nose, this 2019 d’Antan reveals bright aromas of lime, verbena, and subtle flint/mineral notes, evoking gunflint precision and herbal lift. The palate is full-bodied and finely textured, offering grapefruit, almond, hawthorn, and a hint of roasted coconut, all supported by steely minerality and lively acidity for excellent length. This concentrated and elegant white is a superb match with grilled lobster, turbot in meat sauce, or spit‑roasted sweetbreads with truffle sauce, or try it alongside a Vacherin cheese from Mont d’Or with dried pears to highlight its texture and saline grip.
