Product details
Fable Whisky, an independent bottler founded by Andrew Torrance and Calum Lawrie, brings Scottish myths to life through limited, single-cask releases. Chapter 1: “Clanyard” showcases a 12-year-old Caol Ila from Islay, drawn from a single hogshead cask and bottled at a robust 56.8% ABV, with no chill-filtration or added coloring, preserving its raw character. With only 294 bottles released globally, this dram is the inaugural chapter in the “Ghost Piper of Clanyard Bay” story and reflects Fable’s ethos of pairing exceptional whisky with immersive storytelling and distinctive design.
On the nose, “Clanyard” opens with classic Caol Ila peat smoke, reminiscent of beachside barbecues and charcoal embers, intertwined with briny sea air, preserved lemon, and toasted oak. The palate is rich and smoky yet balanced by zesty citrus—lemon drops and grilled sardines—supported by malt sweetness and a savory, earthy backbone. The finish is medium-long, leaving lingering ashy smoke, charred lemon peel, and sweet oatnotes. Perfect neat or with a splash of water to unveil its layered complexity, this expressive Islay malt pairs exceptionally well with smoked seafood (like grilled sardines), charred meats, aged Manchego cheese, or served by a fire-side with dark chocolate toffee for contemplative sipping.
