DuMOL Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022 represents the pinnacle of DuMOL’s estate-grown lineup. These high-density vines, originally planted in 2004 in the heart of Russian River Valley, are farmed organically and dry-farmed, producing exceptionally concentrated fruit. Only the best three acres of the nine-acre original estate planting—strictly the Calera clone—are selected each vintage to create this flagship bottling. Harvested on August 15, the grapes underwent a meticulous fermentation and were aged for 17 months in 40% new French oak barrels. With limited production—just 800 cases—the Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir is designed for long-term aging, gradually evolving into a structured, truffle- and woodsy-inflected wine without losing its innate brightness.
On the nose and palate, the 2022 vintage offers a complex interplay of dark fruits and savory botanicals. Aromas and flavors of black cherry, boysenberry, hibiscus, juniper, moss, and anise emerge vividly. The palate is both bright and brooding—tension-filled by vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannins, with a mineral-tinged drive, violet lift, and bay laurel freshness. The finish resonates with dried herbs and a lift of orange zest, providing an elegant, lingering conclusion. Structured yet refined, this pinot noir is recommended for drinking now through 2034 (peak by 2025), and benefits from an hour’s decanting in its youth to unlock its full aromatic and textural potential.
