Product details
Hailing from the esteemed Domaine Leflaive—one of Burgundy’s benchmark producers with roots in Puligny‑Montrachet dating back to 1717—the 2023 Mâcon‑Verzé reflects the estate’s expansion into the Mâconnais region and its unwavering commitment to biodynamic viticulture since acquiring vineyards there in 2004. Sourced from southwest‑facing slopes in the Verzé valley (“Les Chênes”, about 3.4 ha), planted on clay‑limestone soils shallow to bedrock, the vines are hand‑harvested and pressed in Verzé before the must is ferried to Puligny for fermentation under Domaine Leflaive’s technical supervision. The 2023 vintage underwent a meticulous vinification: gentle pneumatic pressing, overnight settling, fermentation split across stainless steel, concrete, and a small portion of new oak, followed by a total of around 15–16 months of maturation on fine lees—striking a delicate balance between texture and purity.
The 2023 Mâcon-Verzé Chardonnay is a wine of remarkable purity, balancing floral elegance with mineral precision. On the nose, it offers bright aromas of white blossoms, citrus zest, and crushed stone. The palate is vibrant and poised, delivering flavors of lemon peel, pear, and subtle orchard fruit wrapped in a clean, linear texture. Its energy and vivacity shine through, supported by zesty acidity and a finely etched minerality that speaks to the limestone soils of Verzé. Best enjoyed lightly chilled, this wine pairs beautifully with grilled white fish, scallops, vegetable tarts, or soft cheeses like chèvre. Its refined profile and refreshing tension also make it an excellent aperitif or complement to light poultry dishes.
