Clos Du Val's 2022 Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a testament to the winery's enduring legacy of crafting elegant, Bordeaux-inspired wines. Founded in 1972 by John and Henrietta Goelet, Clos Du Val gained international acclaim when its inaugural vintage was selected for the historic 1976 Judgment of Paris tasting, establishing its reputation for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon . The 2022 vintage benefits from estate vineyards in the Stags Leap District, Yountville, and Carneros appellations, with the growing season marked by a late summer heatwave followed by timely rains, resulting in wines with soft tannins and rich, concentrated flavors.
Opening with complex aromas of blackberry, blue plum, violet, and a hint of fresh herbs, this Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is vibrant and expressive. On the palate, notes of cherry, dark chocolate, blackcurrant, and toasted almonds are intertwined with fresh acidity, supple tannins, and a long, smooth finish. The blend—77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot—is aged for 12 months in 30% new French oak, contributing to its structure and depth. With an alcohol content of 14.2%, the wine exhibits balance and elegance, making it an excellent companion to grilled meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses. Enjoyable now, this wine also has the potential to develop further complexity over the next 5–7 years.
