Product details
Founded in 2001 by Thomas Rivers Brown alongside partners Fred Schrader and Charles Sweeney, Aston Estate is a testament to patience and terroir-driven ambition. Planted on a remote, southwest-facing 14-acre site in the northern Sonoma Coast’s Annapolis region, the estate benefited from decades of meticulous vineyard work before full ownership consolidation in 2021. The 2022 vintage captures the estate’s identity through select lots from the upper ridge of clone 777 and core blocks of clones 115 and 667. Crafted in traditional estate style, it brings forth explosive aromatics, textured structure, and refined balance, evoking the brooding, reductive character Thomas Rivers Brown seeks in his top-tier Pinots.
In the glass, this 100% Pinot Noir (14.5% ABV) reveals a savory, complex nose of black tea, forest floor, porcini mushrooms, sweet tobacco, and mineral-rich earth, hallmarks of the Annapolis AVA. The palate opens with ripe black cherry and plum, supported by a smoky, meaty undertone and layers of white florals and peppery herbs. Its generous vintage weight is kept fresh and dynamic through mouthwatering acidity and a rugged yet refined texture. Aged 100% in French oak (approximately 10% new), this wine pairs brilliantly with richer fare—think duck breast, grilled salmon with herb butter, wild mushroom risotto, or charcuterie featuring sweet tobacco and earthy notes to echo its savory profile.
