Talisker 47 Year Old Magma is an exceptionally rare single malt shaped by the rugged character of the Isle of Skye and released in an extremely limited edition of just 622 bottles worldwide. This ultra-aged expression was initially matured in refill American oak hogsheads before being transferred into new American oak casks toasted using volcanic rocks from Skye, creating a distinctive connection between the island’s maritime landscape and volcanic origins. The presentation draws inspiration from molten lava meeting the sea, with sculptural textures and flowing forms reflecting the dramatic interplay of fire and water associated with Talisker’s identity. With decades of maturation and a distinctive cask journey, Talisker 47 Year Old Magma offers a rare expression of the brand’s coastal character.
The nose is mellow yet distinctly mineral and maritime, with wet rocks, dry edible seaweed, salt crystals, Scottish toffee, sandalwood, and a trace of hessian, followed by a faint distant-bonfire note that becomes more pronounced with water. The palate is creamy and silky, combining mineral intensity and gentle sweetness with salt and Scottish toffee, before developing into warming spice and intertwined smoke and sweetness, with the characteristic chilli-pepper catch remaining present. Medium to full in body, the finish is long, spicy, and warming, with Sichuan chilli pepper and a lingering, glowing aftertaste.
