Single Cask Nation has earned a reputation among connoisseurs for uncovering rare maturations and presenting them with minimal intervention, putting purity and provenance at the fore. This 2007 17-year offering is a fine example of that philosophy: drawn from a single oak vessel and bottled in limited quantity, it allows the character of its origin to shine. The liquid began life with unpeated malt, and over its long maturation it spent time in a traditional barrel before a final finishing period in a red wine barrique, giving it a refined layering of character. Its clarity and hue hint at depth without overt heaviness, while its limited outturn underscores its collectible appeal.
On the nose, it opens with bright orchard fruits — pear flesh, strawberry, and hints of lychee — intertwined with soft bubble-gum sweetness and a delicate leatherish nuance. On the palate those fruit tones persist, now joined by fleshy cherry, gentle redcurrant, and a hint of dark cocoa.
