Product details
Krug Vintage Brut 2011 is a masterful snapshot of an extraordinary year, capturing the stark contrasts of a season with reversed patterns—one of the factors that earned it the evocative title “Spirited Roundness” from Krug’s Tasting Committee . Rooted in the House’s storied history since Joseph Krug’s founding in 1843, this limited vintage is composed entirely of 2011 harvest wines: 46% Pinot Noir, 37% Chardonnay, and 17% Meunier. Chief Cellar Master Julie Cavil emphasizes that this Champagne harmoniously blends finesse and power, with each varietal imparting its signature: structured Pinot Noir, lush and generous Chardonnay, and fresh, bittersweet Meunier—all evolved gracefully over 11–13 years’ aging in Krug’s cellars.
Tasting notes begin with a delicate nose of white orchard fruits—pear, apricot—alongside tangy star fruit and citrus, then deepen into balsamic intrigue with licorice, basil, and subtle smokiness. On the palate, pastry-like richness unfolds: stewed fruit, marzipan, praline, honey, and toasted nut nuances, balanced by herbal hints of thyme and rosemary. Its chiselled finish is enlivened by sea salt and grapefruit zest, creating a powerful yet refined experience. Krug recommends serving at 9–12 °C in a Riedel Joseph glass—created in 2011 to accentuate its full aromatic and flavor range. This Champagne stands up to rich, bold culinary pairings: think spicy dishes, grilled meats such as Greek brochettes or sriracha-glazed lamb, and assertive shellfish like black crab or king prawn scampi. Perfect for special occasions, Krug 2011 is already accessible yet promises further development over the coming decades.
