Product details

Fukano Whisky originates from the historic Fukano Shuzo Distillery in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan—all the way back to 1823. Under the stewardship of the fifth generation, the distillery crafts rice‑based spirits using malted, unmalted, and koji rice fermented and distilled in stainless‑steel pot stills. After distillation, the liquid undergoes maturation in new charred white oak barrels. This unique continental aging process lies at the heart of their “Rice & Oak” philosophy, producing whiskies that bridge the smooth purity of shochu with nuanced wood influence, all nurtured by the pristine water and climate of the Kuma river valley. Fukano Blonde, a limited edition of just 1,040 bottles at 42.5% ABV, is sourced from the vatting of two large casks chosen to capture an elegant, minimally oaked expression—a stark contrast to heavily wood‑driven releases, and a showcase of the distillery’s lighter, refined side.

On the nose, Fukano Blonde reveals a delicate bouquet of fruity and floral aromas with refreshing notes of Asian pear, lychee, and caramelized pineapple, balanced by a hint of oak tannin and cinnamon spice. The palate is light-bodied and mineralic, offering bright flavors of underripe nectarine, lemon-lime zest, star fruit, dragonfruit, honeydew melon, icing sugar, and a whisper of vanilla—followed by nuances of wet leather and nutmeg. The finish is clean yet mouth-coating, with a salinic brightness and a lingering citrus bite that feels both energizing and elegant. Given its gentle fruit-forward profile and subtle spice, this whisky pairs beautifully with very mild white fish, steamed vegetables, or light ceviche that won’t overpower its refined texture. It also complements soft cheeses like burrata or ricotta and fresh fruit platters, especially pear or melon, allowing its floral and mineral notes to shine in harmony.
