Ashes & Diamonds Saffron Vineyard Mt. Veeder Mountain Cuvee 2023 comes from Lisa Chu’s organically farmed Saffron Vineyard, situated high on Mt. Veeder above the fog line at approximately 1,500 feet. Rather than following the expected Cabernet Sauvignon profile associated with the appellation, this mountain-grown blend is composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc planted in fractured shale and marine sediment soils. The vineyard’s elevation and dry-farming practices contribute to a naturally firm structure and concentrated dark-fruit character, while native fermentation and a restrained approach in production allow the distinctive qualities of the site to remain at the forefront. The result is a focused expression of mountain-grown Napa Valley fruit with a strong sense of place.
