Opus One Overture Napa Valley Red Wine 2023 marks a new chapter for Overture, which has represented the sense of place at Opus One since 1993. Beginning with the 2023 vintage, the estate has moved to a vintage-dated approach to place greater emphasis on the character of each growing season and the diversity of its Oakville estate. Most of the vineyards are planted in alluvial soils in the western part of the Oakville AVA at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains, where vineyard teams carefully adapt farming practices to individual blocks. The fruit selected for Overture is handled with the same precision and attention to detail as Opus One, while emphasizing characteristics the estate considers especially suited to this expression, including red-fruit character, herbal nuances, soft tannins, and a creamy texture.
Overture 2023 opens with aromas of blueberry, blackberry, and black currant, complemented by sweet cedar, fresh florals, and subtle hints of caramel. The palate is silky and approachable, revealing vibrant red cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate alongside wild strawberry and red plum. Medium-bodied with a finely textured mouthfeel and fresh acidity, it develops into a long, expressive finish that suggests further evolution with time.
