Product details
Screaming Eagle, nestled in Napa Valley’s Oakville AVA, rose from humble beginnings—Jean Phillips planted a single acre in 1986, ushering in cult status with the blockbuster 1992 vintage. Founded on obsessive precision, today the estate releases just 400–750 cases annually, under visionary winemaking from Nick Gislason and Robert Black. Its “Second Flight,” rebranded as The Flight from the 2015 vintage onward, is drawn from younger vines—chiefly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc—yet upholds the estate’s hallmark rigor and elegance.
The 2016 vintage is a masterful expression of that pedigree. Composed of approximately 66 % Merlot, 23 % Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5 % Cabernet Franc, it bursts with aromas of wild blueberry, plum, boysenberry, violet, dark chocolate, and a hint of menthol. On the palate, this full-bodied wine delivers plush tannins, spiced fruit layers, and a perfumed, linger‑on-your-palate finish. Pair this sumptuous red with richly flavored dishes to match its intensity. Think grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, or venison, where dark fruit and fine tannins complement umami-driven, savory meats.
