Founded in 1715 by Jean Martell in Cognac, Martell has built its identity around a distinctive house style and a long tradition of crafting refined eaux-de-vie. Cordon Bleu was created in 1912 by Édouard Martell and remains one of the house’s signature expressions, distinguished by a composition featuring a strong presence of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies, one of the six recognized crus of the Cognac region. Known for contributing floral and nutty characteristics, the Borderies gives Cordon Bleu its recognizable elegance and rounded character. The 2027 Limited Edition celebrates the Year of the Goat, the eighth sign of the Chinese zodiac, through an artistic presentation inspired by qualities traditionally associated with the Goat, including gentleness, creativity, elegance, and an appreciation of beauty.
The nose reveals an elegant and layered profile of violet flowers, crystallized fruit, toasted hazelnuts, warm spice, dark chocolate, and mature oak, with the distinctive floral and nutty character associated with Borderies eaux-de-vie. On the palate, the texture is velvety and full, bringing together violet, crystallized fruit, toasted hazelnut, warm spice, and dark chocolate in a richly layered expression. The finish is exceptionally long and warm, with lingering floral, fruit, nutty, and gently spiced nuances.
