The Appearance: A deep, striking mahogany and dark walnut with a thick, viscous coat that moves slowly on the glass.
The Nose: The aroma is massive, highly concentrated, and shifting. It explodes with heavy dark chocolate, espresso beans, and burnt toffee. Deep fruit notes of stewed prunes, black cherries, and oxidized rancio are tightly layered with classic Karuizawa signatures: polished antique furniture, damp earth, worn leather jacket, and a striking hint of sulfurous gun smoke.
The Palate: The palate is intensely oily, full-bodied, and jaw-droppingly powerful at cask strength. It delivers a rich wave of balsamic glaze, dark plum jam, and molasses, which instantly counters an explosion of European oak spices. Notes of black pepper, clove, dried ginger, and bitter orange peel dominate the mid-palate, framed by an incredibly deep, savory, and drying umami character.
The Finish: Monolithic, exceptionally long, and remarkably dry. The sweetness fades into heavy tobacco leaf, dark cocoa powder, aromatic cedar wood, and a lingering, warming combination of rich wood tannins and mineral ash.
