Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin Grand Cru is a distinguished expression from one of Burgundy’s most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards, whose name is traditionally traced to the story of Bertin, a local cultivator who chose to plant vines similar to those tended by the monks of neighboring Bèze. Over time, his “Champ de Bertin,” or Bertin’s field, became known as Chambertin. The fruit for this cuvée comes from several parcels within the east-facing Chambertin appellation, including the Larrey parcel at the woodland edge, where the terrain requires cultivation by horse and plough. The vineyard is characterized by limestone-rich soils, including calcareous clay, crinoidal limestone, and marl, providing a distinctive foundation for this highly structured Burgundy Grand Cru.
On the palate, Chambertin is powerful, concentrated, and firmly structured, with a persistent texture that carries its depth through the finish. The profile reveals notes of chocolate, liquorice, and small red fruits, combining richness with a composed and enduring character. Its substantial structure and long-lasting mouthfeel make it particularly well suited to richly prepared dishes, including roasted or braised meats.
