Michter’s Shenk’s Homestead Sour Mash Whiskey 2022 pays tribute to John Shenk, who founded his Pennsylvania operation in 1753—an enterprise that would eventually evolve into the Michter’s name known today. Now produced in Kentucky, this annual release honors early American sour mash tradition, where a portion of the previous batch is incorporated into the next to ensure continuity and character. The 2022 edition features a rye-forward mashbill and gains distinctive complexity from maturation in specially toasted French oak barrels crafted from wood air-dried for 24 months in the Vosges region of France. Carefully selected toast levels enhance fruit, spice, honeyed sweetness, and refined oak influence, resulting in a full-bodied, small-batch release that reflects both heritage and innovation.
In the glass, it displays a deep golden amber hue. The nose opens with inviting toasted notes layered with molasses and warm baking spice.
