The malts crafted in the Lowlands match the soft rolling landscape. Smooth and light they make the perfect aperitif. Light, fresh and very smooth. A fresh, invigorating, clean sensation. Once upon a time, there used to be a malt whisky distillery in every town of any size in the Lowlands, supplying global demand as well as Scottish, now sadly, only a handful remain. Those distilleries still in existence are typically soft and approachable, clean and fresh on the palate - their appeal reaching far and wide. The whiskies here tend to be light in color with a dry, crisp finish, making Lowland malt the aperitif of choice due to its generally sweet fruity essence; mellower than its Highland neighbour.
