Mars The Lucky Cat 11th Edition Solla Japanese Whisky is a limited-edition release from Mars Komagatake Distillery in Nagano, Japan, and the eleventh installment in the beloved Lucky Cat series from Hombo Shuzo. Inspired by the individual personalities of cats belonging to the company’s president, Kazuto Hombo, the series celebrates the feline companions through carefully developed blends. Solla, a young cat with a warm chestnut-and-cream coat and a playful personality, inspired this distinctive release. The blend brings together malt and grain components, with a focus on malt aged in chestnut barrels and Spanish oak sherry casks. Additional cask influences contribute to the blend’s character, reflecting Mars Whisky’s approach to combining different maturation profiles. Presented as a limited release, The Lucky Cat Solla offers collectors and enthusiasts a distinctive addition to the Mars Japanese whisky range.
The tasting profile opens with fresh peach, Anjou pear, and sea-salt caramel aromas, followed by a palate featuring briny and spicy notes, cinnamon, chewy grain, and baked apple. The combination of fruit, spice, and grain character reflects the influence of the blend’s varied cask maturation, including chestnut and Spanish oak sherry casks.
