Product details
Hatozaki Whisky emerges from the Kaikyō Distillery at the southern coast of Japan, where master distiller-blender Kimio Yonezawa brings together centuries-old heritage and modern Japanese whisky artistry. Named after the historic Hatozaki Lighthouse—Japan’s oldest stone lighthouse—the brand embodies guidance, tradition, and the thoughtful precision of Edo-era aesthetics. The Triple Cask Reserve reflects Yonezawa: he carefully blends malt whiskies aged in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks, before finishing the expression for six months in Umeshu (Japanese plum liqueur) barrels—a rare technique in whisky maturation that delivers a uniquely layered character.
On the nose, expect elegant layers of black tea, vibrant orange, dried apricot and vanilla, underpinned by gently toasted barley aromas—creating a sweet-yet—balanced aromatic harmony. The palate reveals subtle oak spice, dried citrus peel, and a distinctive ume-infused fruitiness, leading into flavors of honeyed pear, stone fruit and plums, concluding with a smooth, sweet-fruity medium-long finish. For food pairing, this whisky melds beautifully with grilled seafood—such as miso-glazed salmon—or rich cheeses like aged Gouda, where its balanced sweetness and spice can both harmonize and elevate the flavors.
