Product details
Hailing from the legendary Bruno Giacosa estate in Piedmont, the 2020 Barolo is a pure expression of one of Italy’s most revered producers. Founded by Bruno Giacosa—who began shaping his winemaking ethos at just 15 and was celebrated as the “Genius of Neive”—the winery focuses on sourcing top-tier Nebbiolo fruit from prime sites like Serralunga d’Alba, as well as select estate vineyard holdings such as Falletto and Le Rocche. Since 2012, Giacosa’s Barolos have been crafted exclusively from estate-grown grapes under the stewardship of his daughter Bruna, maintaining the founder’s philosophy of gentle tradition combined with precise, modern technique. The 2020 growing season was marked by an early budburst, driven by a mild winter with consistent rainfall and above-average temperatures. Balanced conditions followed, with moderate rainfall and seasonal temperatures supporting steady vine development through all phenological phases and allowing excellent control of fungal diseases.
Despite the early start, harvest timing aligned with previous years thanks to ideal September and October weather, with warm days and cool nights that promoted outstanding ripening. This vintage shows a luminous red garnet color and an intense, refined fragrance layered with fresh red berries and subtle floral nuances. On the palate, it is lifted by vibrant freshness and balanced, polished tannins, while the phenolic maturity delivers depth and precision. The finish is persistent and elegant, revealing fine-grained structure and lingering minerality. Serve decanted at around 18–20 °C alongside rich Piedmontese cuisine—braised beef, roasted lamb, truffle risotto, or aged cheeses like pecorino and parmigiano. While approachable in its youth, this Barolo will reward cellaring over the next two to three decades, evolving further in complexity and aromatic finesse.
