Product details
Decugnano dei Barbi is spread over 54 hectares, of which 33 are planted with vines. Unlike the rest of the Orvieto Classico DOC, the soil in Decugnano has marine origins, created in the Pliocene era. Fossils
of oysters and shells scattered in abundance in the land testify to the presence of the ancient sea that covered these lands almost 2 and a half million years ago. The sandy, light-colored, calcium-rich soil provides an ideal environment for vines. The clay component, albeit limited, helps to retain water in particularly dry seasons while calcium provides the ideal micro-nutrients for the development of grapes. Complementing the soil structure there are very important factors for the cultivation of quality grapes: an ideal microclimate, constant ventilation and an important temperature range between day and night, essential for retaining acidity and aromas.
