The Akkeshi Boshu is the third release in the up and coming distilleries Solar Terms series and this one highlights the time of year when rice and grain sow their seeds. It brings an intriguing, complex array of flavours to the table that highlight the incredible local ingredients used. It’s yet another outstanding new release from this rising star of Japanese whisky and one that you should get your hands on while you can.
Boshu - the season for the 'Sowing of the Grain' - the 9th season out of 24 in the Japanese cycle of seasons. How appropriate for this very special whisky made at this tiny new artisan distillery located at the far eastern reaches of the remote northern island of Hokkaido. Distilled from malt that was peated with extremely rare peat sourced locally near the distillery, the spirit was aged in ex-Bourbon, ex-sherry, ex-red wine and mizunara casks prior to bottling at a natural strength of 55% abv. Very limited.
