This is the new version of the blue Macallan single malt whisky 12 years Double Barrel. They used Macallan’s traditional Spanish sherry oak barrels, and also the American sherry oak barrels. Incorporating these two styles, Macallan created one of their stunning products, "double sherry barrels".
Fresh American oak is transported to Spain across thousands of miles. In Spain, it is traditionally hand-made into oak barrels. After the barrels are seasoned with Oloroso sherry, these "American oak sherry barrels'' are transported back to Speyside Winery in Scotland. Macallan 12 years Double Barrel was matured in these barrels for at least twelve years.
It has the classic mellowness of European oak barrels and the essence of American oak barrels. The fascinating characteristics of the two sherry barrels are perfectly merged, creating a mellow, full and refined body.
