Product details
The Clos du Bois Winery was founded by Frank Woods in 1974. The name, loosely translated from French, means Vineyard of the Woods.
Prior to founding the winery, Frank Woods sold his grapes to Rodney Strong at the Rodney Strong Winery. Frank Woods was inspired by Robert Mondavi's mission and his success in elevating the wines of Napa Valley to world class status. He sought to do the same with the wines of Sonoma County.
Frank Woods background was as a marketing executive. He was one of the first to market the Sonoma and Alexander Valley regions and vineyard specific wines.
Clos du Bois Winery today is a leader in sustainable winemaking. The winery has 4,000 solar panels that provide almost 100% of its energy needs. The winery also removed vineyards in the Russian River Valley for wetland restoration and maintains a composting program to reduce waste and organically improve the vineyard soils.
